ay lads i just completed my RUAE prelim and I can tell you something now - it's really easy. I'm not sure how prelims work and if they are the same nationally, but mine was on Peppa Pig. The majority of questions were 'own words' questions which, for the most part, are the EASIEST. There were a couple of word choice questions, a linking question, and 2 on why 'this line is effective'.

SO2 Content in Wine Help!
Hi guys, I'm in the process of doing my write-up for my project in AH Chem (SO2 Content in wine via titration with Iodine). Doing the underlying chemistry and my teacher suggested I mention why NaOH is added to the wine to free up the bound SO2. Only problem is that I have not been able to find anywhere how it actually frees up the SO2. If anyone has maybe done this project or knows why, please help ;)
cheers

Nat 5 English - help!
Hello, sucks that you have a teacher like that who doesn't help you or give you the support you need. I am also currently studying English at Nat 5 and what my teacher does for the critical readings is to give us a fill-in analysis sheet with important things such as themes, key quotes and character details that we can do in class, if you would like me to send you it Ill get a fresh copy from my teacher.
For the RUAE, I would highly suggest doing past papers and other online sources but just keep practising as it's just answering questions from the extract provided. This is entirely optional but maybe go to supported study for English if your school has it, it may just give you the support you need. However, if you do find that the teacher does not give you the correct support or doesn't teach you correctly, you can go to the head of department or your guidance teacher and be moved.
I am certain that you will do much better in the exam because the prelims always tend to be much harder than the exams so don't stress out about it as it will go up once you become more familiar with the critical pieces and RUAE.
Hope this help and good luck!

Aww thankyou, ditto!! Also same I like the area it's nice and quiet (I stay in Glasgow the city life is getting annoying lol) and the uni is so nice and maybe they wait for certain subjects but history is quite popular and I sent mine off on the 25th of November. Glasgow, dundee and Edinburgh are replying quick

Drama or Prose?
gonna be honest I've not done drama since nat 5. doing AH this year though and we're doing drama for that, but I'll have to see how that goes in the prelim. I did Gatsby for higher last year and loved it- there's a ridiculous amount to analyse in it if you're taught it right, although I'm sure there's also plenty in the crucible. on a revision basis, prose is great as I find it far easier to re-read a book whereas re-reading a play just isn't fun (for me). I enjoyed gatsby so much that I'm doing my dissertation on it at AH, so maybe it'll become clearer when you've done both texts- it's probably easiest to revise something you're interested in as you'll retain more? dunno if this has helped at all tho
